|A GOODWILL MESSAGE BY HIS EXCELLENCY DR. ORJI UZOR KALU TO THE 2007 IGBERE EZUMEZU
HELD IN ATLANTA, GEORGIA, USA BY IGBERE INDIGENES IN DIASPORA
Governor Orji Uzor Kalu
My Dear People,
I bring you the best wishes of myself and my family on the auspicious occasion of this year's Igbere
Ezumezu by Igbere sons and daughters in Diaspora.
I thank you most sincerely for inviting me to the occasion as a Special Guest of Honour. Much as I
would have loved to attend, I regret to inform you that circumstances beyond my control have made
this impracticable. As you are aware, I am fighting unrelentingly to prove my innocence in the
spurious allegations leveled against me by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
(EFCC). There is nothing concrete so far by the commission to prove any of these allegations against
me. The commission knew, ab initio, that it was incarcerating me for .no justifiable reasons.
Everybody who had followed very conscientiously the political developments in Nigeria prior to the
end of my tenure as governor would have known without any soothsayer telling him that I was marked
for chastisement because of my die-hard stance against tenure elongation and other atrocities
committed by former Olusegun Obasanjo's administration
I remember that I used to tell Obasanjo in is heyday not to be power drunk as power is ephemeral. I
also admonished him to avoid anything that would bring his reputation into disrepute rather he
should emulate the statesmanship of the like of Nelson Mandela who quit office when the ovation
Today, we are all witnesses to the barrage of criticisms against him and his cohort for mismanaging
our collective destiny as a nation for the 8 years he ruled as President.
One thing that makes me glad is that whatever one sows in life is what he reaps. I am being cajoled
and castigated today because I stood up against the ills of our society. I do not regret it one bit
because I knew from day one that I was fighting a risky battle. For those who know me too well there
was no way I could have kept quiet while the people were being shortchanged. I spoke out despite
the precariousness of my crusade for I was certain posterity would vindicate me.
As you celebrate the Ezumezu Igbere do not forget that you have an onerous duty to work for the
development of Igbere, nay Abia State. You should begin to think home and what you can do to bring
greater peace and development to Igbere in particular and our state in general. You should always
bear in mind that no matter where you are today home is still the best.
On my part I wish to reassure you of my unwavering commitment to the development and progress of
Igbere and Nigeria. I am convinced that I still have a date with destiny when God will fulfill all his
designs in my life.
I urge you to support my successor, Governor Theodore Ahamefule Orji, in his effort to consolidate on
the achievements recorded by our administration. I think, so far, he has done very well.
I salute you all of you for standing by me throughout my tenure as governor and thereafter. You have
by this singular act demonstrated deep fraternity and love for me: I pray God to bless and keep us all.
I wish you a very happy celebration and pray God to strengthen us in his love and protect us and our
Thank you very much.

(Former Governor of Abia State, Nigeria)
