IGBERE EBIRI SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME – 2010 EDITION

We are pleased to announce to the general Igbere public the third edition of the Igbere Ebiri
scholarship scheme.  The first edition, in 2007, produced three awards to three deserving
Igbere sons and daughters. So did the second edition in 2008. The 2009 edition did not
happen mainly because of major upheavals in the school calendar of that year.

This scheme was initiated by Igbere sons and daughters resident in the State of Texas in the
United States of America but has since been embraced by Igbere sons and daughters
elsewhere.

The scheme is intended to help as many deserving Igbere sons and daughters as possible to
acquire higher education and life-enhancing skills.

Eligibility:
  • Applicants may come from any of the Igbere Ebiri autonomous communities.
  • They must have completed at least the first year of study in any chosen discipline and in
    any recognized Nigerian University.
  • They must have achieved a grade point average of at least 3.5 up to and including their
    most recent examinations.
  • They must also be known to be of good character.
  • Those enjoying other scholarships that may continue throughout 2010 need not apply.

Method of Application:
Interested persons should complete the prescribed form to which they must attach official
evidence of their academic performance as well as a one-page essay indicating why they need
the scholarship. Completed Application forms may be returned as indicated on the form itself.

Closing Date:
All applications must be received before or on the last day of May 2010.  Any application that
comes in after this date will not be considered.

APPEAL FOR DONATION TO IGBERE EBIRI SCHOLARSHIP FUND

I write on behalf of the Igbere Ebiri Scholarship Board to request your kind support for the
Igbere Ebiri Scholarship scheme.  This Board comprises Prof Ogwo E. Ogwo; Engr.
Ndukwe Uche; Engr. Emmanuel Ukandu; Mr. Oko Igbokwe; Mr. Ndukwe Dibia, Engr.
Emmanuel Ibekwe, and Dr. Eme Ekekwe. The scheme kicked off modestly in 2007 with the
award of three (3) scholarships to Igbere undergraduate students.

The Igbere Ebiri Scholarship scheme is intended to help as many deserving Igbere sons
and daughters as possible to acquire higher education and life-enhancing skills. The lean
purse with which it started dictated the modesty of the first awards.  We are hoping that
with support from you and others, we can grow the funds and make the scheme a lasting
lifeline to many Igbere youths who need support to change their circumstances for the
better.

We hasten to assure that ALL donations to the fund will be husbanded with utmost care.
Each year we will publish the list of all donors and recipients of scholarship support, so
that you can see how your support is being used.  In December 2008 when we formally
present this scheme to Igbere people, the names of all donors as well as the amount they
donated will be announced. Appeals for funds such as this will go out from time to time, in
order to ensure a healthy fund.

We request that all donations be made into a bank account opened for this purpose, as
follows:
Name of Account:          AKWUKWO EBIRI
Account Number:           6018112626
Bank:                             ZENITH BANK, Umuahia Branch.

We look forward to your favourable response to this appeal.  The Board will be very happy
to hear from you and receive any suggestions you may wish to make to ensure the
success of this effort.

Please be assured of our high regards for you and your family

Yours truly,
Engr. Emmanuel Ukandu
