Chief Smart, Ukoha Kalu

At the end of the Nigeria Civil War, Ukoha Kalu Smart
was the only surviving child of Elder Smart Kalu Ukoha
and his loving wife of many years, Lovinah Chidinma.
God later blessed the family with the arrival of four
adorable daughters.

His primary education which was interrupted by the period of hostilities was
completed at the School Road Primary School, Aba. He later was admitted to
Eziama High School, Aba, where he studied between 1973 and 1978.

Being in the school broadened his mind and opened his eyes to the limitless
opportunities offered by education and when  the reality dawned on him that the
future belong to the enlightened and innovative, was determined to  be part of the
great future. So on completion of his high school education, he went to stay with
his relation at Enugu and was regaled with the stories of the United States, by the
uncle who had just returned. He knew where he where he needed to go for further

While in the US., he toiled odd hours and sacrificed his leisure just to pay his way
through the Texas Southern University, Houston, Texas from where he obtained a
Bachelors degree in Business Administration with specialty in Banking and Finance.

Eager to contribute his bit to nation building, he returned to Nigeria in 1986, but he
to go back to America when job opportunities seemed an arms length. Being
focused, determined and bubbling with zeal to survive, he ventured into business
with little or nothing having just graduated from the university.

As usual, Smart struggled in the uncharted and uncertain waters of international
business, exploring opportunities. Today, he has become a very successful
businessman with interest in sundry merchandise imported into the country by his

The journey has been long and arduous, but through vision, hard work and God’s
mercy, Smart has risen to international reckoning in his chosen career.

In 1998, he got married to the love of his life, Georgia and together, they have two
boys and a girl.

Smart is humble, straightforward, and self made with strong belief in his abilities
and an enduring passion for humanity.

As a role model to the young ones, he recommends focus, hard work and
determination as the keys to unlocking the realizing one’s potentials and goals.

He has been honoured by the Federation of Igbere Students and Amankalu Igbere
Community for his contributions and selfless service towards the development of
the community and for his immeasurable service to the homeland and his
relentless effort in training most of his people to University level.

Eager to leave a legacy for posterity, he plans to diversify into manufacturing to
provide livelihood for families and boost the nation’s economy.

A man of simple, but exquisite taste, he is in love with Corinthian and Roman
architectural designs of the medieval period, adorned with modest but standard
piece of furniture.

Always conscious of hs roots, Smart is aware of the problems of his birth place
Ihungwu, Amankalu Igbere Autonomous Community, and undertaken to provide
modern public convenience facility for his people, in place of the toilet system. For
now, Ukoha Smart is simply devoted to building an enduring structure for humanity,
with his footprints firmly embedded in the sands of time.

Chief Smart Ukoha was honoured by the Igbere Council of Ndi Eze, with the
chieftaincy title, Ugwu Mba of Igbere.
