On behalf of the Igbere Progressive Association International (IPAI) Caretaker Committee, I wish to welcome you all to this historic gathering on the occasion of the association's second convention here in the city of Atlanta. We have fervently prayed that God accommodate your individual zeal and desire to be with us at this time. We are truly delighted that our prayers have been answered.
I want to thank the IPA Southeast Chapter and her leadership for accepting to host the second IPAI convention under very difficult (and nearly impossible) set of circumstances. On behalf of the Committee, I want to apologize to those delegates who were adversely affected by the change of venue resulting, in some instances, in pecuniary loss due to last minute flight rescheduling and other altered logistics. We also appreciate your understanding of the circumstances and your confidence in the committee's judgment that the decision to change the venue for the convention, although a very painful one, was necessary and the right thing to do.
It is amazing when one realizes that it was about this time just two years ago (2005) in Houston, Texas that this House convened for the first time with a collective determination to set Igberians in Diaspora along a path of purposeful identity founded on unity. I want to pay a special tribute to the Texas chapter and her leadership in 2005 for initiating us along this path.
On that occasion, Igberians handpicked thirteen offspring of Ebiri and charged them with providing this House with a blueprint and foundation upon which to continue to build this hope and aspiration. The time line for your mandate has attained full circle on this United States Labor Weekend as we convene again here in the great city of Atlanta to take stock but also to celebrate and cherish our oneness and heritage.
The IPAI Caretaker committee looks forward to presenting to you the modest results of the efforts of the men and the woman whom you bestowed with the privilege and honor to serve you. As we back slap and hug each other, and cherish this opportunity to meet again with old friends, relatives, and our invited guests, let us not forget what has always worked for Igbere: Unity, Tolerance, Love, and Forgiveness.
The city of Atlanta offers numerous tourist attractions, including the CNN world headquarters, the aquarium, and the Coca-Cola building. I encourage you to find time to visit some of these fabulous sites.
Again, welcome to the great city of Atlanta. I wish us all a very happy and fruitful convention and abundant journey mercies when we head back to our respective stations at the end of the convention. "Unu Abia O"!!!!
